Raven Travelling: Two Centuries of Haida Art is the companion volume to the Vancouver Art Gallery exhibition, Raven Travelling, first shown in 2006. The 200-page book offers readers 40 colour illustrations of the art of past Haida master carvers as well as outstanding works by contemporary Haida artists. The books contain essays, poems, a speech, and bilingual excerpts from classic Haida narratives. Authors include Daina Augaitis, Peter Macnair, Marianne Jones, Bill Reid, Robert Davidson, Nika Collison, Lucille Bell, Vince Collison, Guujaw, and Isabel Rorick. Interviews with interviews with contemporary Haida artists Robert Davidson, Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, and Don Yeomans are included. There are 140 of the exhibition's 300 objects are represented in illustrations. The book includes pictures of traditional ceremonial items, such as carved raven bowls and a classic shaman's raven rattle, to functional items, such as spruce-root baskets and bent boxes used as food containers. Included are objects created by Haida master carver Charles Edenshaw along with modern dance masks by Robert Davidson, Reg Davidson, and Freda Diesing.
