For the Love of Reading: Books to Build Lifelong Readers is a children's literature guide for anyone who knows the importance of reading should be introduced to children at the earliest opportunity. Authors David Bouchard, Lucie Poulin-Mackey, Sally Bender and Anne Letain have compiled a list of favourite children's books and organized over 500 titles into eight chapters. The authors all believe that reaching children and instilling the love of reading begins when parents also realize the importance of reading and literacy. The early chapters organize the suggestions into age categories such as Pre-conception to Two; Three- to Five-Year-Olds; Six- to Eight-Year-Olds; Nine- to Eleven-Year-Olds; and Twelve- to Fourteen-Year-Olds. Book suggestions for young adults age fifteen and older are also included. Each author recommends key titles and explains their choices with brief, personalized annotations. Titles from Canadian publishers are indicated. There is also a listing of books appropriate for holidays, birthdays, and celebrations. The final two chapters provide suggestions and additional resources for teachers and administrators. And the final chapter offers concrete do's and don'ts to remember when introducing the love of reading to children. There are author and book title listings included. There are few titles with Aboriginal content but this book is a good resource for parents and teachers.
