Circle Program: Pattern Book Set, Kindergarten is a series from the language arts program kit called the Circle Program, an integrated ESL language arts program for Native children in Northern Ontario. The program, developed in the Modern Language Centre of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education with funding from the Ontario Region of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, addresses listening, speaking, reading and writing skill areas. This set of Pattern Books contains ten copies of each of the nine titles.

The Crying Christmas Tree is a heartwarming Christmas story published by Métis publishing house, Pemmican Publications. In this children's picture book, author Allan Crow (Ojibwe from Whitefish Bay) tells a story about an elderly Native couple who lived years ago on he Whitefish Bay Reserve. The reserve was many miles (kilometers) from the nearest town and people travelled two days by horse and sleigh in order to shop in town during the winter months.

Maggie receives a pair of black, patent leather shoes from her mother. It is the gift Maggie had hoped for. In her excitement, Maggie runs to her Kokom's to show her grandmother the special present. Kokum agrees that the shoes are lovely. Maggie is pleased to learn Kokum also has a gift hidden under the bed. Maggie finds a bag with a beautiful pair of beaded moccasins. But Nokum knows how to make a birchbark container from the natural resources in the woods so the boy can fill it with berries.
