From the Ashes by Jesse Thistle is his memoir. From being lost and alone, falling apart, living on the streets and later to reconciliation, From the Ashes is Thistle’s life story. Through four parts from 1997 to 2015 he recounts life through his stories of growing up berry picking with his Kokum in Debden, Saskatchewan; through his parents’ separation, and living rough, begging and going hungry with his father and then being in foster care.

Inconvenient Skin / nayêhtâwan wasakay authored by Shane Koyczan is a dual language English and Cree poem and art book. It includes the artwork by Kent Monkman, Joseph Sánchez, Jim Logan and Nadia Kwandibens. The Cree translation is provided by Solomon Ratt. With Inconvenient Skin / nayêhtâwan wasakay, Koyczan hopes to continue the conversations after the polarizing 150 years celebration of Canada as a nation.

The preface of this work states that the UNDRIP is an opportunity to explore and reconceive the relationship between international law, Indigenous peoples’ own laws and Canada’s constitutional narratives.
