Nihiyawiwin 10 was developed for high school and adult learners who are interested in beginning to speak and write Woodland and Plains ?Y? Cree. This teaching resource was developed by the Northland School Division in Alberta. Eight thematic units present a culturally based Cree as-a-second-language program. The units are Let?s Speak Cree; The Circle; Berry Picking; Duck Hunting; Family; Travel; Food and Eating; and Dance. The writing system for the package is the Pentland system of Roman orthography. Words are spelled using the Woodland ?Y? dialect. Nihiyawiwin 10 is presented in four loose-leaf binders. Each unit contains dialogues, echo-actings, language and concept development stories, songs, rhythm poems, riddles, arts and crafts ideas, and grammar. This language package is authorized as a teaching resource for use in Alberta schools at the Grades 10-12 levels. |
