Brittney Diana: Power Dive into Reading Series was developed by Diane Silvey, a Salish teacher, for First Nations Education Division of the Greater Victoria School District, British Columbia. This reading series is intended to supplement existing pre-reading material. It provides additional reading practice to students who have difficulty in the regular program and are 2-4 years behind in their reading skills. The series will give students a sight and spelling vocabulary of 180 words. The Teacher's Guide includes a three-step method to teach word recognition. The mini readers and activities reflect the Northwest Coast culture area. This reading series consists of the following: Teacher's Guide for Books 1,2,3, and 4; Teacher's Guide - Sight, Sound and Spell Key Program (Student associates sounds and pictures with word spelling. Includes charts for short vowels, diphthongs, diagraphs and consonant blends.); Power Dive into Reading Books Student Workbook 1, 2, 3, and 4 (Each book includes blackline masters for word recognition, context clues, sentence starter, comprehension questions, rhyme/choral reading and word bases.); Power Dive into Reading Student Workbook 5, 6, and 7 (Reinforces the first basic sight words. Includes diagraphs and diphthongs from the spelling program, and comprehension question. Student should be able to transfer to higher level after completing book 7.); 6 Mini Readers (What Can You Feel: What Can You Hear; Where Do You Climb; Where, Oh Where, Is Pine Marten?; Tall, Taller, Tallest; and Animal Ditties ll); and 6 Pattern Books (What Do You See?; I Went to the Woods; Tell Me Tell Me What Do You See?; What Did You Find on the Shore?; It's All a Matter of Size; and Animal Ditties). These reproducible readers are predictable, have rhythm and are meant to be read with a beat. |
