History

GoodMinds.com officially commenced distribution of Native educational resources in April 2000. We are a Native owned and operated business that is located on the Six Nations Reserve at Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

GoodMinds.com is owned by Linda Burnham and operated by Linda and Jeff Burnham and staff including Sheila Staats, Arlene Hill and Donald (DJ) Gibson. Our history really begins in 1987 when Jeff Burnham started a computer training business, Working World Training Centre.

Working World Training Centre remains a computer training business operating out of Hamilton and Brantford under new ownership.

The Great Peace... The Gathering of Good Minds CD-ROM Project

The Great Peace... The Gathering of Good Minds CD-ROM began in 1995 when the training centre conducted a three-month  multimedia training program for unemployed individuals. As a class project, the students developed the prototype that eventually became known as The Great Peace... The Gathering of Good Minds CD-ROM. The prototype was a 30 to 60 screen, zero budget, three-month project that interpreted the exceptional artwork, The Great Peace... The Gathering of Good Minds, by Tuscarora artist Raymond R. Skye.

This project developed into an interactive CD-ROM portraying the history of the Iroquois based on The Great Law of Peace.  Many will understand that The Great Law of Peace is the foundation of the Iroquois Confederacy.

In December 1998, the 3000+ screen CD-ROM was released.  An estimated 20 thousand person hours went into the development of this CD known as The Great Peace The Gathering of Good Minds CD-ROM.  We are pleased that everyone involved feels privileged to have been a part of this special creation. We are encouraged by the positive endorsements received from the many schools that have purchased the CD for their classrooms and libraries.

Launching GoodMinds.com

Many educators and librarians had glowing reports of The Great Peace CD-ROM use in their classrooms and libraries.  In fact, many purchasers asked if additional resource material was available.

Recognizing the need for single-source, quality Native resource material, it was decided to offer the best works by Native and non-Native publishers.  This includes books, videos, cassettes, CD-ROMs and educational kits. Each item included in the inventory is reviewed and evaluated.  By locating the on-line catalogue on the Internet, GoodMinds.com hopes to reach out to educators, librarians and the general public who are searching for resources about and by Native people.

In the quest to offer clients a single-source for the best in Native resource material, GoodMinds.com is contacting every school board/district in the U.S. and Canada, publishers with Native content titles, and as many libraries as possible.
