First Nations Language Lessons: Cree "N" is an interactive language resource designed for the beginner level by OBI Systems of Saskatchewan. The CD-ROM contains 11 units including alphabet that introduces the sounds for the vowels and consonants; numbers that contain 7 lessons; colors that introduces the terms for 8 colors; calendar that covers the words for the seasons, days, months; my body and the clothes I wear; creatures that introduces animals from the land and water; my family; foods; household objects that inroduces the objects found in various rooms of any modern home; story time which contains three stories written in English with the audio in Cree; and common phrases which conatins basic commands a teacher uses in a classroom. The Cree N dialect translator and validator was Pauline MacKay. Navigation is easy which makes the CD suitable for young students who have a basic reading level. The CD is designed for anyone just beginning to learn Cree and introduces about 400 words. Each unit contains activities that introduce each word in spoken and written formats. Extension activities test the student's knowledge. A Teacher's Manual is available separately. Alberta Learning lists this Cree CD as authorized for student support in grades 4 to 12 Network version for classroom use is available. MAC and PC.
