| Nihiyawiwin 10 CD-ROM was developed for high school and adult learners who are interested in beginning to speak and write Woodland and Plains ?Y? Cree. The Northland School Division in Alberta developed this resource for students. Eight thematic units present a culturally based Cree as-a-second-language program. The units are Let?s Speak Cree, The Circle, Berry Picking, Duck Hunting, Family, Travel, Food and Eating, and Dance. Each unit contains dialogues, echo-actings, language and concept development stories, and games. The CD-ROM contains only the student activities and does not include the teaching strategies found in the 4-binder kit, Nihiyawiwin 10. The value of this CD-ROM is the audio component that allows students to hear the pronunciation of Cree words and phrases. The writing system uses the Pentland system of Roman orthography. Words are spelled using the Woodland ?Y? dialect. Nihiyawiwin 10 is presented in CD-ROM format with full audio and visual effects. Included are video clips of an Elder speaking in Cree and English, and powwow dancing. CD requirements: Windows 3.1 / Windows 95 / Macintosh. |
