Canada's Visual History CD-ROM from the National Film Board and the Canadian Museum of Civilization contains an 80-volume collection of images and historical articles on Canadian history. The CD-ROM includes 2,400 archival photographs, paintings, drawings, maps, and charts. The content covers precontact to recent Canadian social history. First developed as slide sets, each of the 80 volumes were written by specialists in history, archaeology, or anthropology. The original slide set consisted of 30 slides of historic and archival images and an essay and bibliography. These volumes were digitized and are now available on one comprehensive CD-ROM. The Main Menu screen is organized into four sections: Themes, Index, Search, and Volumes. In the Themes section the main areas of content are further divided into categories such as cities, Native populations, immigration and colonization, arts and crafts, social and political development, industry, and conflict and resource exploitation. The Index is an alphabetical listing of subjects that are most often subdivided into further categories. The Search feature can locate three separate single-word terms using Boolean operators. The Volumes section lists each of the 80 topics covered. With each volume, the content included the essay, images, and further readings. The content can be easily copied and pasted into WordPad. Several topics cover Aboriginal People including First Nations, Inuit and Metis. Some topics are Indian Trade and Ceremonial Silver, The Mississauga of New Credit, Life in the Western Canadian Fur Trade, Ontario Prehistory, Blackfoot, Whaling in the Canadian Arctic, Canadian Arctic Prehistory, Copper Eskimo, Prehistory of the Maritimes, Northwest Rebellion of 1885, Fur Trade in Canada to 1787, Fur Trade in Canada since 1787, Inuit of the Labrador Sea, Prehistory of British Columbia, the Iroquois, and Quebec Prehistory.
