Book Description |
| Native Art Activity Book contains 42 pages of images by Kashechewan Cree artist and educator, Elijah T. Wesley. Despite being termed an activity book, this set of classic Woodland style art by a First Nations artist should appeal to teachers and students who are studying First Nations art. The illustrations cover the various animals, fish and birds typically found in the James Bay area. In addition, the artist includes symbols and designs such as medicine wheels, dream catchers, feathers and clan animals. Each image is outlined in the classic x-ray style found in art from the Woodland School. These images can be appreciated as positive activity book-style pictures for younger grades complete with connect the dots, simple mazes, find the similar images and more. More importantly, the artist includes five exercises for learning to draw using a simple grid. These images and activities make Woodland art accessible for senior elementary students. This book serves as an inviting introduction for appreciating and learning to draw Woodland style art. |
