| Nation Iroquoise: A Seventeenth-Century Ethnography of the Iroquois includes the original French transcription and its English translation of an undated and unsigned manuscript found in the National Archives of Canada and the Bibliotheque Mazarine in Paris. This manuscript describes the seventeenth-century culture and government of the Oneida Nation. The author offers a possible explanation for the source of the manuscript and its significance to an understanding of Iroquois ethnography. The contents of this 17th century document covers the geographic location, flora and fauna, religion, councils, war councils, condolence, mourning, role of women, and the impact of alcohol on this Iroquois Nation. The French manuscript is translated by K. Janet Ritch and Jose Brandao. This brief book contains an index, map, and bibliography.
