Alfred Reading Series, Cree is a set of five readers designed for preschool to grade one children. Titles include: Alfred Nistam E-kiskinahamaht (Alfred's First Day at School book 1); Alfred Nipinisiw (Alfred's Summer book 2); Misi Mayiwepan (The Big Storm book 3); Pwatisimowin (The Pow-wow book 4); and Lisa Ekwa Sam (Lisa and Sam book 5). Young children will enjoy the various adventures of five-year-old Alfred and his older sister, Lisa. These contemporary Aboriginal children have fun in the summer with their grandparents, attend a pow-wow, and finally prepare for Alfred's first day of school. The series is written and illustrated by Metis educator Darrell W. Pelletier. The Cree translations for Alfred's First Day at School and Alfred's Summer provided by Freda Ahenakew; the remaining titles were translated by Tyrone Tootoosis and Mary Anne Stoney.
