Aboriginal Plant Use in Canada's Northwest Boreal Forest is an authorized teaching resource for Alberta Education grade 10, 11, and 12 courses. This edition is copublished by the Canadian Forest Service of Natural Resources Canada. It covers traditional plant use of more than 200 boreal forest plants. Researchers worked in 29 communities in the boreal forest region of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The researchers employed seven First Nations trainees, five Metis, and four botany students to collect the plants and interview community elders for the project. The result is a handbook with entries and photographs of important plants that played economic, spiritual, and medicinal roles in Aboriginal communities. Each entry provides the common and scientific name for the plant, its location, and its traditional usage. This is an important resource for school and public libraries.
