| Aboriginal Cultural Landscapes is published by the Native Studies Press and issued in 2004. The editors, Jill Oakes, Rick Riewe, and Yale Belanger, offers readers a collection of 35 essays that include themes of relationships, ways of knowing, Aboriginal identities and repatriation, sociological concerns, historical glimpses, environmental issues, and literature. The pieces are written by First Nations and non-First Nations academics, historians, scientists, politicians, and environmentalists. Essays of interest include Relational Boundaries: Kaswentha and Inter-group Relationships by Jeff Lambe; Imagining New Worlds: The Aboriginal Imagination by David Newhouse; What Canada Means to Me by Elijah Harper; Islands as Sacred Places and as Meeting Grounds by David McNab; and Kokum's Story: Wiihtiko (Wetiko) or Victim of Circumstance. The last essay by Donna Sutherland examines an oral history account of a 19th century Omushkego woman accused of becoming a Wiihtiko by her two sons. This collection offers secondary school and university students access to resources about Indigenous Peoples of Canada, India and, Japan concerning contemporary issues and topics of concern. |
