| Ojibwemodah! Sound and Vocabulary for the Intermediate Learner contains one audiocassette and a 43-page booklet. The package was produced by Ojibwe Mekana of Duluth, Minnesota, an Ojibwe language program. This package was designed for learners who have mastered the Spoken Ojibwe for Beginners package. While the goal of this three part program is fluency, the producers stress that this is impossible without daily contact with another fluent Ojibwe speaker. They also stress that the intermediate learners should listen to spoken Ojibwe for twenty minutes each day. They are not emphasizing the written language and so they mention that the spelling of Ojibwe terms in the manual are written based on English sounds. The manual begins with two set speeches about the importance of learning Ojibwe language. The learner is urged to memorize one of the speeches. The remainder of the manual covers useful phrases for use at work, home, and play. The manual builds on concepts taught in the beginner's manual. There are additional sections for asking questions, new vocabulary for cultural objects, and dialogue for playing a card game. The Ojibwe speaker, Norman Clark, speaks clearly and repeats each term three times. Unfortunately the type font in the manual is extremely small making it difficult to read. Overall this is a valuable language learning tool for educators and individual learners. |
