Ojibwe: Learn to Speak and Understand Ojibwe with Pimsleur Language Programs 16 Audio Cassettes is a set of audio tapes containing 30 lessons by the Native American Preparatory Center in Bemidji, Minnesota. The introduction explains that these audiotapes use the Ojibwe language as it is spoken by Red Lake, Leech Lake, and White Earth community members. The Pimsleur method of language learning exposes learners to language spoken in everyday conversations. In this method the learners hear vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation as spoken by male and female language speakers. The Ojibwe speakers are Vivian Thunder Stately and Larry Cloud-Morgan. They also served as core writers for the course lessons. A 15-page booklet accompanies the set of cassettes. It provides background about the development of the course and information about the Ojibwe language. An additional 12-page booklet explains the theory used in the language program. The course is designed to teach the Ojibwe language in the shortest time possible so that the learner has a functional mastery in understanding and speaking the language. In each half-hour lesson the learner converses with a male and female speaker. The course does not encourage the learner to memorize vocabulary lists or learn rules of grammar. The course outline is designed to assist the learner in speaking Ojibwe in everyday conversational style. The 16 audio cassettes are packaged in a cassette storage case.
